PechaKucha
Hi everyone. I don't know if anyone is still checking this blog, but in case you are, I did my PechaKucha on stage at Tokyo PK Night on February 23. It was really an interesting experience. In front of about 400 strangers. No one I knew was there. It went really fast. It felt like about two minutes. PechaKucha put my presentation online if you want to see it.

AEP: Final presentation video links, final reflection blogging
Excellent work on the final group presentations. Very high quality communication. Stimulating.
I was sincerely inspired by the work your various organizations were doing to make a difference in issues facing our world.
Here are the video links if you want to watch as you reflect on the final two questions to answer on your blogs (any time before...Wednesday next week at the latest):
- In terms of presentation skills (using your voice, body language, visuals etc.), what did you learn through the three presentation projects and lessons in AEP?
- What do you want to continue to improve?
- (Optional) Any other comments or reflections?
Free the Children
Women's Aid
Teach for America
Marine Mammal Center
Our final class on Monday (I-101, same room) will be a chance to wrap up and discuss what you learned and what skills you want to develop further. You can write your final reflection blog article before or after Monday's class as you like. Don't forget to post your group's slides on blog today or tomorrow so that your partner can write a comment for you.
Once again, great presentations, and see you Monday,
Mark & Sylvan

Final Presentation: Create Your Group's Goals
AEP Final Presentation Group Goals
As a group, on Wed 2/9 or earlier/later if you like, but definitely prior to the presentation, cut and paste the blank chart below into a Google Doc that is shared with all of your group members as well as markc0908@gmail.com and sylvanjpayne@gmail.com.
Then, collaborate (online or in class) to fill in each box with the key words that you want to remember and self-evaluate your group's presentation on. After the presentation, you will watch your video and reflect on how it went based on these goals.
Please post your group's goals on each of your blogs prior to the presentation.

Congratulations on Finishing PKs! + Wed's Class in I-101
Regarding the next step of "audio + slides" to post on your blog, Sylvan has very kindly volunteered to use QuickTime Pro on his computer to combine your slides with your live audio into a Movie file. In other words, he will do it FOR YOU (nice guy) if you are OK with using the live audio we recorded.
So, if you want Sylvan to do this, please send your PowerPoint slides to Sylvan along with a nice email. He'll magically combine your slides with the audio and return the movie file to you. Then you can upload it some time this week.
Or, if you prefer to not do that, and want to be independent and record audio by yourself over your slides on KeyNote or PowerPoint or some other system, that is welcome as well.
Deadline: We realize that it may be impossible for everyone to finish uploading the audio + slides to blogs by Wed, so please just try to finish that by Monday next week 1/31.
In class on Wed, Saori will do her PK first, and we will ask you to give us your impressions of the PK project in a short survey. Then we will begin to talk about the Final Presentation: Request a Donation. This will be a group project and groups will be made randomly by choosing numbers from a hat.
See you on Wednesday!

Online PK Examples - This is how your embedded PK + Audio will look like
The sample above about the Future of the Music Industry seems to use "live" recorded audio of the presentation added to the slides via QuickTime Pro or other software.

Presentation No.2 - PechaKucha will be Monday Jan. 24, check your room
Hope the PKs are coming along well.
Monday will be the presentation day as scheduled in the syllabus, and we will do the presentations in two rooms, I-101 and H-253, seven students each.
The rooms will be according to your enrollment sign up:
ILC-101 with Mark:
Danielle, Kana Shimizu, Kana Fukushima, Megumi, Madoka, Asuka, Yuta
H-253 with Sylvan:
Noriko, Rei, Sayaka, Saori, Kana Matsushita, Hanna, Midori
Good luck with creating and practicing your PK!
Also, each student will need to create an audio + slides movie of the Pecha Kucha and upload it on your blog. You can do this any time before Wednesday 1/26's class.
For the audio, you can record it in the Mac lab with Keynote, export it as a .MOV file, and then upload it to YouTube, and then embed the video on your blog.
PowerPoint might work too--check the Help menu or this link for how to use AuthorStream (http://www.authorstream.com/). Also, when you present in the classroom on Monday, we will record audio, so you have the option of using that actual "live" audio to combine with your slides. If you prefer to do that, please talk to Sylvan about how to use QuickTime Pro.

Self-Analysis & Goal-Setting for Presentation No.1
Hope you had a nice winter vacation. I think I've gained a few pounds after ingesting intensive amounts of good food at my in-laws in Shizuoka and will need to work it off before running the Tokyo Marathon in February.
Just a few minutes ago, I shared your presentation video with each of you via YouTube, so you should see a link in your Gmail account. If not, please let me know.
By January 12, please:
Watch your video and take notes on your use of voice, body language, visuals and anything else you notice. Also, reflect on your process of preparation and how it can be better next time.
On your blog, post a self-analysis and goals list with something like the following format. For the Reflection part, just note in a few whether you felt you were able to accomplish what you wanted to accomplish or not and any difficulties you had. For Goals, write down the things you want to improve in your next presentations.
On January 12, you will watch your video with a partner once more and discuss your reflections and goals.
1. Voice (Volume, rate, pausing, emphasis etc)
Reflection:
Goals:
2. Body Language (Eye contact, gestures, posture etc)

3. Visuals (Images or text on slides, timing etc)

4. Preparation Process (Topic selection, notes, visuals creation, rehearsals etc)

5. Any other reflections or goals?
Here is a sample. Feel free to change the format above such as colors or even the organization to suit your own goal-setting.
